In 2022, Elk Rapids was designated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources as a Pure Michigan Trail Town.
The Trail Town designation recognizes and provides resources for communities that provide trails and outdoor recreation opportunities to residents and visitors. Elk Rapids offers a variety of land and water based recreational opportunities and trails. A short drive will connect you to over 300 miles of non-motorized trails for paddling, walking, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, birding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and other recreational opportunities.
